Invisalign LogoAre you unhappy with crooked teeth? Do you wish you could straighten them without needing metal brackets or wires? Well, you can. Invisalign uses clear plastic aligners to straighten your teeth without the need for traditional braces. The aligners are removable, so there’s no diet restrictions, and no special cleaning required. And because there’s no brackets or wires to get caught on your cheeks, they’re more comfortable.

Invisalign isn’t appropriate for everyone, but it may be right for you. To learn whether this advanced orthodontic treatment will work in your case, please call 559-431-4488 or email Dr. Donna J. Blair to schedule an appointment at her office in Fresno.

How Invisalign Works

Invisalign uses the same basic principle to move your teeth that traditional braces do. Gentle pressure encourages your body to rework the bones around your teeth, allowing them to move into place.

Only Invisalign uses clear, BPA-free plastic aligners to provide the pressure instead of metal wires and brackets.

To begin your Invisalign treatment, we will first take a digital image of your teeth. This image will be fed into a computer that will design a scientific sequence of steps for moving your teeth into alignment. Once we look over the series of movements and ensure that your final results look like what you want, we send the sequence to the manufacturer, who will make your aligners.

When your aligners arrive, we will fit your first one to make sure it feels okay. It will be tight at first, and you may experience some discomfort when you first start a new aligner. You will wear this aligner for two weeks (about 20 hours a day to ensure appropriate movement) before moving on to the next one.

We will give you several aligners at a time, but make sure you wear each for the full two weeks before moving to the next. This will help your body adjust to the movement and ensure you get the results you want.

When you have gone through the entire sequence of aligners, your teeth will be straight. As with all orthodontic treatment, a retainer is recommended to help maintain your results.

Advantages of Invisalign

Although Invisalign uses the same basic principles as traditional braces, it is a significant improvement because:

  • Aligners are clear, nearly invisible
  • Aligners are removable, which means
    • No diet restrictions
    • No special cleaning
    • You can remove them for special occasions, public speaking, or close-up photos
  • Instead of sharp wires, plastic aligners are smooth and comfortable
  • You don’t have to make as many appointments
  • Changing to a new aligner usually causes less discomfort than tightening brackets

These advantages are responsible for the increasing popularity of Invisalign.
